As my partner and I were battling for last place...we had a TRULY ethical dilemna arise.

After hearing about Kent's release of the big fish...(which is pretty nice to know that there are honest fishermen out there! Good job Kent)...anyway...my partner and I were discussing Kent's release of his fish and the question was:

What if we had 2 fish over 24" already in the boat and one of us actually catches the State record. Now that's a problem. You can't keep it becuase it disqualifies you (3 fish over 24"), and releasing it prevents a guy from claiming a rightful title to the record....a real problem.

So as you can tell it was tough fishing for us...

Weighed in 2 fish on Sunday...one more than I did last year.

It was quite a lot of fun and Congrats to Chad and Kent and Brad for such a fine showing!

My partner and I just finished our first tourny of anykind with the Cats Incredible. I have to say we had alot of fun. We didn't have the best luck and were challenged by lack of experience. We learned more about cat fishing this past weekend than we have since we started chasing old wiskers. (Last year after the Tourny)

I would like to thank the folks who gave us hints and tips for all of their help. I assure everyone that we will be back next year.

Thanks Kent, we really did have a great time. I feel for you on releasing that piggy. That would really tick me off. I worry about that every year. I guarentee people sort and cull and honestly i dont have a problem with them doing that if they have a suffiecent (sp) livewell. We personally havnt done it but i know people do and it doesnt bother me as long as the fish stay healthy. I believe that thats why they have the rule is merely to keep the fish healthy. A few years back we had a 9 ponder and a 4 pounder die on us and we took it too heart. The next year we were prepared. we went out and bought a ful size truck tool box and installed an airater in it. It has worked flawlessly every year since. Our biggest one this year was cauught at 8:00 am swallowed the hook so we cut the line and left the hook in. It was healthy as could be when weighed in 1:00 pm. So i dunno if ya can keep'em healty then ok. But if not then go weigh in more often, either way its a really tough rule to enforce. Have a good one Kent.

Chad Great job, My son and I were only 4 oz from the money. He was heart broken when we didn't win any money but all in all I had a great time with him on the river. We ended the first day with 5 fish and sat in 15th place. Oh I forgot my son caught all but the smallest the first day. Second day was slower for us with only a 10 lb fish.

What hurt us the most was having to threw back a 35 1/2 incher Sat, guessing the weight about 20 to 21 pounds. We had already caught our big fish for the day. OUCH OUCH OUCH need I say anymore. O'well just have to try again next yr with him again and hope things go a little more are way.

Talking to a couple of people about the fish, all they said was why did I weigh the other fish so fast for. The only way I took that was If it would have been them they would have culled the fish. Even my eight yr picked up on it and said do they cheat. I didn't know what to tell him but you play by the rules and hope for the best. If you win you feel great about yourself. If you win cheating I hope you feel good about it.

What an interesting tourny it was this year. We couldnt find the sumo pigys as our biggest fish weighed in was only 13.38 pounds. Consistentsy was the name of the game this year. The piggys wernt biting for the most part so making sure you weighed in ten was very important. We took 2nd place with only 60.99 pounds. Last year we weighed in 65.00 pounds and took 16th. All in all it was a great time.. one i wont soon forget! Take care everyone.

Wet nets!

Thank you for your responses. Knowing to move when there have been no bites is the sort of information I'm looking for. Dennis, I'll give you a call this week and maybe we can set something up.

Thanks again. Greg Swanson

I spent the first part of the week up at Cats on the Red up at Lockport Manitoba. What a blast! We boated 54 fish in the first 8 hours we fished with most of those close to and over 20 lbs. If anyone has not experienced the fishery up there, you have not fished the best place in the world to catch large channel cats. I would recommened calling Stu @ Cats on the Red and setting up a trip now, you will not be disappointed.

Greg from Fargo, To fish this part of the river anchor up above some cover, trees in the water, and cast your bait within a couple of feet up steam from the base of this obstruction. The best baits have been frogs and cut sucker. If you don't get a bite within ten minutes move to the next spot. The trick to catching a lot of fish is just to keep moving. There are no honey holes as a spot you catch fish at today may or may not hold fish the next day.

If you would like to talk to me sometime, I will give you any advice you want. Give me a call @ 484-9395. I am hard to get a hold of though as I am on the river every night. Catfishing is easy and a blast!

Well I had to show what a day I had on the Red Aug 9. We caught 37 cats and I personally caught twelve master anglers. The bait of choice was large frogs but goldeye caught a few. Click the link below to see some pics of a great day...

The Cats on the Red Classic is a go no matter how many teams we have in by the Friday August 16th, Entry Deadline. Even if we only have 40 teams entered by that time, it's still a go!

So pass along the good word Ed.

You can also pass along the word that the river is dropping rapidly to its normal summer stage and that this weekend Cats On The Red has had many anglers coming in to launch from Saskatchewan, North and South Dakota, Iowa and Minnesota. Many of them have told Stu and Diana that they definitely intend on entering the tourney.

If you require further info please call. So see if you can get a memo into those fishing websites you work with and all the anglers browse through and let everyone state side know that the Cats On The Red Tourney is a definite go!
