Have you thought about "Vector Control" and mosquito sprays toxicity to the Red River? I did some math. The amount of pesticide in 1 minute of spraying, can make 781,250,000 Gallons of water poison to fish!

The 96-hour LC50 values for Scourge in rainbow trout, Bluegill Sunfish, and Sheepshead minnow are: 2.40 ppb, 13.00 ppb, and 8.80 ppb, respectively.

13 parts per billion is the highest concentration toleraterated by fish. At 14.4 part per billion diluted in water = 1.44oz Resmethrin / 100,000,000,000oz water.

781,250,000 Gallons water potentialy toxic PER Minute!!!

look at the spray area compared to the river.

Response to Bergi. I was just at lockport and caught many catfish, one at 31 inches and a 34.5 inch twenty pounder. The fishing boats were also catching alot of cats. I have fished in and about Selkirk with alot of luck using worms on a Gamagatsu hook. This seems to catch alot of species and you will undoubtably catch a Goldeye or two. I have yet to try the marsh area at the north end of Selkirk park, but I expect there will be some larger Carp in there also. last year I caught two in the low 30 pound range, they fight hard! Hope this helps.

Went to lockport again and caught onto a few cats. One Bent my hook back so I went a size larger gamagatsu. I am using only worms and only have to wait 10-15 minutes for a bite. My largest was a 31 inch 18lb with one eye. the other was half gauged out by something and looked aweful. I had alot of fun pulling him in though. I cast downstream as far as I can and wait for my rig to set at the bottom. Then I just wait to feel a nibble, sometimes you only feel a little pull, other times the rod just about gets pulled from my hands.

My son and I fished at the Forks in Winnipeg using worms on a pickeral rig. We landed over 30 cats in about 2 and a half hours. The largest was 32 inches, a 27 incher and a 25. The rest were between 12 and 18. It was great fun especially watching my son wrestle with them.

We are planning to be in the Fargo Moorhead area a couple of weekends this month and wanted to know if there was a good place to put a boat in and catch a few catfish.

Don't need any secret holes, just pointed in the right direction. We have never fished the river before.

thanks

Brad. If I remember right you can camp behind Cabela's along the river and next to the damn. I have seen people camping here before so I'm guessing it most be ok to do it. Hope you have good weather and a good trip up north.

Brad when are you planning on coming up this way. Fishing by the dams is a great place if your not bring a boat. This year might be evern better since the river wasn't high enough to let the fish pass during the spawn run. Fish should be stacked up under them. As far a north, I have never fished more the ten miles north out of Grand Forks so I can't tell you much about that area.

Brad Kvanbek, I'm not to sure what your looking for. If you looking for a great place to fish and camp on privite land I can't help you. What you can do is call the East Grand Forks Chamber (218-773-7481) and they should be able to help. If your looking for rural land you might be able to ask a home owner along the river and they might let you camp along the river but you won't know if it would be good fishing there or not. Camp in town and fish both damns. Hope that helps.

Dead Horse whipping time.

My wife just handed me our April-May issue of North Dakota Outdoors magazine. If you are unfamiliar with it, it is published by NDGF and covers a wide variety of topics and everybody with an interest in hunting or fishing in North Dakota should be a regular reader. Cover price is $2.00 and considerably less if you get a long-term subscription (you should be able to subscribe on line at http://www.state.nd.us/gnf/ndoutdoors/ndoutdoorsmag.html.)

Anyways, one of the feature articles this month is a well thought out and written piece called "Walleye Size Limits, A Look at the Options and Why They Aren't Currently Needed on North Dakota's Two Largest Fisheries by Randy Hiltner and Jeff Hendrickson". All I can say is excellent article gentlemen, well written and well supported by scientific data (and no, I do not work for NDGF, nor have I met the authors).

As I said before: catch and keep what you want up to the legal limit, C&R if you prefer, just don't let any fish go to waste. And now I add, don't let the death of a fish you would have released depress you so much. Life is too short.
