That's too bad about the crappie!

I, a few weeks ago caught a crappie....at a local dam. It was the only fish I caught all day. I didn't even know there WERE crappies in that dam!

Hey Guys, I'd like to thank everyone for their responce on my trip out. I guess you won't be seeing me until the 1st week in March or so. I hope some of the little things that we use in Wisconsin help you fill that limit. Right now I've got the boat hooked up and I'm headed for the Wisconsin River to do a little Dam Fishing for walleye. That's all that's left here until spring. The crappie report was a lie. I speent 2 days poking holes for 1 the size of an Elm Leaf.

Hey Mike from cheeseville! Yeah, the action has been less than exciting compared to the past but it could get back to normal with the blink of an eye. The fish are still there, more and bigger than ever, it's just that us fisherfools are up against an explosion in the fresh water shrimp population in DL. That's great for making bigger fish but makes fishing more difficult. The key is, if you do come out, is to be mobile, and don't be afraid to try different things. Keep your eye on this web site, people directly for "secrets", and most importantly is don't forget about DL in the spring and summer months. You will catch fish. Some days it's easy... too easy. Some days you have to work for your limit. Just remember, the fishing is always good, it's the catching that sucks sometimes. Hope to see you on the water.

I fished today on East bay and did pretty good on the perch. I ended up keeping 22. Most of the fish came on wax worms. Then at 10:30 I went and fished by the casino and caught 9 jumbo perch in about 2 hours, it was 1:00 by this time. I went in for lunch and then went out for the afternoon bite on the Walleyes. I ended up with 4 Walleyes I kept. I dont know why everybody is having problems catching perch, I think it's been a pretty good year so far and we are only in Jan. Good luck perch-in

I would like to thank the fishermen who submitted the HONEST reports on perch fishing Devil's Lake. I've never been there and decided to open a web page or two for investigation. I moved from Milwaukee too central Wisconsin for the hunting and fishing. If you guys open a web page from down here it sounds like a fish factory. However the local gane warden hasn't seen any good fish taken in a month. Whats wrong with this picture? Our ice fishing is pretty much shot due to warmer weather and dangerous ice. If anyone could help me out on making a trip up there it would be appreciated. All can help you with is cheese and brats. Sincerely Mike Keckeisen Murphysmasters@aol.com

One other thing, there was good ice every place I checked except about 50 yds out from the trees on the east side just south of BT bay's boat ramp. There it measured a whole 8-9 inches.

Hit the Black Tiger bay area on Saturday. Best fishing for me was in 34 ft of water. Only caught 2 perch and 8 walleye (between 6 and 12 inches). Kept nothing, put the walleyes backk and gave the perch to someone else. Used minnows for the walleye and perch. Only caught one walleye all day on a waxworm. Color of jig, or plain hook didn't seem to matter.

Went spearing on the North End of Six mile bay. Between two od us we never seen a fish. Was very hard to see the bottom in this area.

After 5 hrs of not seeing a fish we switched over and moved to the east bay for the evening walleye bite. Again between four of us we never had a bite. I would say that fishing was a little slow yesterday.

the previous reports are still accurate... perch have been very hard to get to bite... but if you find a active school of perch you can catch a bunch. ice conditions have thinned. I was fishing this morning and ran into about 6" of ice on east bay. be careful east bay... across from camp grafton is hot... haybale bay... black tiger bay are all good spots... just be mobile. vexilar helps. fish the early morning and evening for walleyes in shallower water

Fished Black Tiger on Saturday 5 Jan. Started by Woods Rutten Rd. in 30-35 ft. of water. Drilled lots of holes, never marked a fish. Moved to sunken road, same story. Drove the whole bay back to Woods Rutten drilling holes, still nothing. Ended up in 10-12 ft. of water and finally caught 3 perch (2 of us) about 4 pm. Then started catching walleyes till dark on minnows (still fishing). Saved the day.

Spent Sunday on Black Tiger Bay. I have to say the Perch fishing was slow. I spoke to a few people that said they were not having the best luck. The few fish we caught were nice size just few in numbers.

About an hour before sunset we moved over to a ridge where the floor breaks from 18' to 15' and set up at 16'. Caught lots of walleyes in a short time. Only three were above 14".

Fished the sunken road at black tiger on Saturday. Caught a total of 6 perch. Only one was greater than 8 inches (could have done that at the English Coulee). I caught all mine on waxworms and a bare hook, no bites on minnows and jigs. Two fellas from Rugby were about 60 feet away from me (same depth, distance from road, etc) and caught about 20 nice perch over the entire day using minnows, huh ?????? Fished in 34 ft of water on the south side of the road. Had two friendly Minnesotans fishing 60 ft on the other side of me and they caught one perch. Lots of people there, but unsure of how everyone else did. Talk about hit and miss fishing.

Fished Black Tiger on Saturday. We started the day with a slow Walleye bite and moved out to about 35 feet of water for perch later.

We didn't catch massive amounts of fish, but the ones we did catch were really nice. (11-13") All in all it wasn't a spectacular day. Still better than work.

Will try again Tuesday.

Fished devils Lake yesterday. Started by grahams island and caught a few nice perch and northerns. Then went to black tiger bay and they are driving on at that location. Then went in front of Camp grafton and pulled are geer out on the ice from the road. Caught one eye there. Slow where we were. Ice was 10.5 inches by grahams island. 13 inches at black tiger and about 8 inches in front of Camp Grafton. Goodluck!

There is an article on FBO about bottom dragging perch devils lake.

It's worth a look. Nice tips fishing perch on Devil's Lake.

Basically it's letting your lure float sideways...and attaching a long 'dropper'with the bait...as you retieve the lure...it crawls...or drags across the bottom...bottom dragging. They call it bottom dragging. Bottom dragging is the idea they are trying to present to catch perch bottom dragging.

Yes, Bottom dragging is the words I'm using...because they seem to wnat that term to be used...bottom dragging.

We're bottom dragging now..

:>)

Good article...not anything I didn't just explain, though, bottom dragging is fun. We all bottom dagging...all your bottom dragging belong to us...(Long Story)

Ho Ho Ho we have ice about 12 inches. I guided the day of our blustery wind. 4 guys and myself got into the perch, we caught 125 in 3 1/2 hours. Then in the afternoon we went out Walleye fishing on the flats it started out slow but at about 4:00 things started to happen, we ended up keeping 14 nice eating Walleyes, so it wasn't a bad day of fishing for what mother nature threw at us. If you are interested in fishing Devils lake I have a guide service and lodging. I own houses I rent out to fisherman that are fully furnished with linens, cable TV, washer and dryer, dishwasher, stove, refrig, all your cooking needs and more, the houses also have garages for fish cleaning. I can put together a good package deal for you fisherman. Well good luck fishing. Jason 701-473-2533

Pssst...Shhhh! Here Jumbo perch...here jumbo perch.

Devils Lake is good for jumbo perch...but there is another Lake in Eastern North Dakota that is HOT!

Search this site and find the Lake. (hint-most folks thought it was dead...and it's BIG!)

You can ice fish Devil's lake all winter...and do very well, but I have a feeling that this lake is a sleeper!

Fished DL on Saturday 15th for the first time this year with "Tip-Up". Started @ Mission Bay, 4 walleyes & 2 perch, only 4" of ice, Yikes!. Moved to Mauvee Coulee, 8" of ice. The first line down didn't even get to the bottom before an eater walleye hit it. After that.....Zip!. Absolutley beautiful day on the ice, good to get the gear warmed up for the season.

Fished the southeast side of Woods Rutten Sat. morning and got exactly zero. Fished the northwest side of it in the afternoon and caught 7 or 8 small walleyes near the trees right at dusk. Ice was about 5" thick most places we fished. We heard about people doing well on Lake Cavanaugh fishing for perch and pike. Anyone ever fished there before? Sounds like a decent place to go if the big lake is dead..... Dr. Solberg are you fishing these days????
