Fished out of grahams the 31st and the 1st. Fishing was slow I believe to the huge mayfly hatch. The little buggers must've been feeding big time on em'. Anyhow managed a couple of bass and some norts. Good time for the kids. Didn't catch any walleyes but had fun.

Fished DL fm 23rd-26th may. The fishing was slow the first few days. Most fish (walleyes) were caught from shore at black tiger bay campground off the docks. The bites started at about 2000 and were still catching them after 0200. As the nice weather started to move in the lake fishing in the boat got better. Fish (2-3 pounders) were in 2 to 8 ft of water and were catching them in the trees along the shore with wally-divers perch color as well as brown tiger huskie jerks. Few northern as well. The last day the fish were biting in the deeper water, 15ft in east bay/black tiger bay on the submerged road (east end). Although the fishing started slow and not much of anyone was catching anything I had a great time. I imagine that the fishing has picked up a little more since I have come back to tx. Good luck

Was at Devils lake over the memorial weekend...Caught lots of northern. Caught 1 crappie at channel A (12"). Secret spot for walleye? Fish from shore under the bridge near the Casino....won't start biting until 8:30 p.m.. When they bite...better get ready.

GMAN,

Wallys are on the chew. Had great success last weekend and you can too. The shore fishing is awesome right now. You'll do better with a boat because of the control you gain of bait presentation. First of all go to Ed's bait shop, get one of their free lake maps and leeches. If you dont already have these crank baits buy them. #3 and #5 perch colored and Shad Rap Rapala's in the "countdown" version. Had great luck near the town of Minnewaukan on Hwy 19. Look for where the rock on the hwy meets submerged timber. The bite is from dawn till about 11:00 am and again at about 8:30 till dark. Mission Bay is another great area but becarefull if you fishing from shore at the wrong spot you will need to buy a Tribal fishing liscense when fishing from certain roads. If your on a boat its no worry. Good Luck. Post us your results.

Bill,

No, Devils Lake is not a crappie fishing lake. Walleye, white bass, Northern Pike and ice fishing for perch are it's claim to fame

In the future you might want to wait a few hours for a reply rather than multiple posts:>)

The perch are completely stuffed to the gills with forage. It is hard to make a fish bite when it isn't hungry.

We fished off of Graham's Island, the flats and up near pelican lake the weekend of May 9th. It was cold and rainy and the fishing stunk.

Water temp was never above 49, while we caught few walleye on jigs and twisters, we had no action from Northerns even with minnow tipped rigs and rapalas.

Hopefully the warmer temps will raise the water temp and the action.

Why doesn't anyone talk about perch fishin during the summer months here?

Was hitting a few white bass and many of northen and walleye along shores, maybe 6 feet of water. in total of 6 hours of fishing caught 456 fish on southern rocks and sands. Great fishing. Spawning is nearly over now for walleye on the lake. GPS has all my hotspots on devils locked and i can hit almost any day of the week

You might want to wait a couple of weeks for the white bass. Last year we hit them on memorial day weekend and must have caught 300 between the two of us in 3 ft of water. And in the past it seemed like its been the same thing, catch a few and then that weekend seems like we hammer them. Just look for some of the warmer water with rocks and they should be their.

I agree that the resorts and bait shops will always tell you the fish are biting. i will also tell you that in each of the past three years my best fishing on that lake has been in early to mid june. My personal no hassle plan in is to find an nice drop off near some trees in 6-12 feet of water throw out a slip bobber with a leach and vertical jig with a leach at the same time.

I'd be a little skeptical of what the guys in the bait shops and resorts tell you. To them the fish are always biting everyday all day. None the less, DL either kicks the crap out of you, or you kick the crap out of DL. Thats how it always seems to me.

Jeremy,

The dates that you said are probably a couple of the best days on Devils Lake. You should be able to find fish almost anyplace you go. You can jig, cast cranks in the shallows, or even use slip bobbers in the trees. Just get a fishing report from a resort or bait shop when you get there and have fun because the fish should be ready to bite.
