Thanks for the update, Ed. I'll be getting out with you in the very near future to do a little of that huntin' for some eyes. I'm thinking after this weekend I'll be a lot more free to do as I wish (I'll take care of the last of my holiday family stuff this coming weekend.) Scoot

I don't know about the rest of your river rat, but it has been s-l-o-w fish'n for me the past week?

Sloppy wet ice, spooky ice in many areas for sure, so that has limited my choices of where to try.

The very clear water may have the walleye in night bite mode? The few fish I have tracked down were in very shallow and at night. Gold flashy stuff has been best for me, then gold and glow combo's. The melt may have something to do with this shallow bite, who knows?

I'm stubborn so I'll keep hunt'n tell I find another good bite. Sounds like the big chill in on it's way in soon? That may make things interesting too? Just may push them roaming fish back into the deeper spots and make them easier to find. Lots of if's I guess?

With the cold they are forecasting it will help to firm up the sloppy ice once again anyway, so that is good.

Hi all.

I would like to offer a word of warning on the present ice conditions on the Red River and other rivers in the region.

The ice was fairly thin to start with, and with the new snow cover and the warmer weather it is dissolving very rapidly.

I would HIGHLY recommend snowmobiles, ATV's, and other recreational equipment stay off the Rivers at this time.

Bridge and or necked down flow areas are points of very real danger. They should be completely avoided and not used as crossings for recreational vehicles or pedestrians!

The surface is very wet and slushy resulting in further dangers. This ice is extremely unpredictable and dangerous at this time.

Have a safe and joyious Holiday season!

Thanks,

Ed

Brad,

I would say on an average of each time i go out considering some trips are short and others much longer that it would come out to around 50.00 a trip. food, beer, gas, bait, beer and beer. Yup atleast 50.00 :)

Thanks for the reply. I may head out this weekend and see if I can get a few and check the ice. I am itching to get the shack set up. Any info from anyone else doing the Red would be great!
